Desi Herter

Desi is originally from Western Pennsylvania and has been in the Tampa Bay Area for the last 10 years. Her university, which is also her alma mater, provided her with the opportunity to relocate to Florida to help establish their first branch campus in 2015. Being in higher education for the last 20 years, Desi is often described as intellectually curious and creative, while being an effective decision-maker, communicator and strategic planner. She has a master’s degree in public administration with a focus on Change Management and Organizational Leadership.
Her wife, twin boys, and fur babies are her world, and they love to travel and camp as a family. She enjoys hiking, camping, baking, touring breweries, traveling, and listening to live music. Desi takes much pride in her family’s ancestry and holds traditions and family values close to her heart.

Her polish grandparents helped raise her. Desi’s “Pap” often shared stories about unworldly creatures and unknowns from as young as she can remember. Instead of fairy tales and nursery rhymes, they learned about Aliens, Ghosts, Sea Creatures, and of course Bigfoot (Sasquatch). His passion became her passion. She has been researching, learning, educating, and most importantly, loving the mystery and the search for the unknown ever since her childhood.

When it comes to researching Sasquatch, Desi enjoys each sector of the process. She admires how the boots on the ground activities connect to the archaeology, anthropology, and historical components. How nature and life, in all its forms, has an unspoken bond and effect on the land and to one another throughout time. Respecting the wildlife, the land, and all that nature has to offer is of great value to her and one gift she plans to pass on to her sons.

She is most intrigued with the audio review process during field research and has invested the last 3 years in expanding her knowledge base on the topic. She attributes her personal experiences in the woods, networking with fellow researchers throughout the country, reviewing cataloged audio from well-respected research organizations, and experimenting with various software and technology to be the catalyst behind this strong area of focus.

Desi has had the opportunity to meet some of the most profound authors and reputable researchers in the sasquatch research community from throughout the country. Each has become a mentor and a friend. She hopes to be able to return the favor some day and educate others who share the same interest and are on the same journey.

Andrew Auton

Categories: SMBC25-S

Andrew Auton has never been a skeptic when it comes to Bigfoot—he’s always had a sense that something was out there in the woods. As a kid, he even caught a glimpse of Bigfoot on a local news story by accident (a whole other story in itself). For many years, Andrew was what you might call an “armchair researcher,” immersing himself in documentaries, videos, and books on the subject.

That all changed in 2022.

With guidance from a former professional researcher, Andrew and his close friend Joe were led to a remote location in the Smoky Mountains—an experience that would become their first, and most eye-opening, Bigfoot encounter. Since that day, Andrew has transitioned into hands-on fieldwork, embarking on hikes, gathering experiences, and deepening his study of the phenomenon.

Grounded in his Christian faith and guided by the growing body of evidence collected by respected researchers, Andrew firmly believes that Bigfoot can be explained—and even understood—in a rational, logical way. Though he balances his passion with the responsibilities of a full-time job, he continues to explore when he can and is committed to sharing what he learns along the way.
