Through the Totem Forest
Sitka’s History, Wildlife & Coastal Rainforest Adventure

Discover the best of Sitka on this relaxed walking adventure through one of Alaska’s most beautiful and historic landscapes.

From the shores of Sitka Sound to the towering totem poles of Sitka National Historical Park and the majestic birds of the Alaska Raptor Center, this excursion combines history, culture, wildlife, and natural beauty into a uniquely Alaskan experience. Along the way, you’ll explore a lush coastal rainforest, learn about the region’s rich Tlingit heritage, and experience the stories that have shaped Sitka for generations.

After taking the complimentary cruise shuttle into downtown Sitka, you’ll meet your guides and fellow adventurers before setting out on a leisurely journey through the heart of this remarkable community.

Our first destination is Sitka National Historical Park, where towering spruce and hemlock trees line one of Alaska’s most iconic walking trails. Stroll among an extraordinary collection of Native totem poles while learning about the history, traditions, and cultures that continue to shape Southeast Alaska today. The park’s visitor center offers fascinating exhibits that bring the region’s past to life.

From there, we’ll continue through the beautiful rainforest to the renowned Alaska Raptor Center. This world-class rehabilitation facility provides care for injured bald eagles, hawks, owls, and other birds of prey while educating visitors about Alaska’s incredible wildlife. Guests will enjoy the opportunity to observe these magnificent birds up close and learn about the center’s conservation efforts.

Joining the adventure will be Adam Davies, Matt Pruitt, Jonathan Dover, and Ryan “RPG” Golembeske. Throughout the excursion, guests will have plenty of opportunities to visit with the speakers, ask questions, take photos, and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere that encourages conversation and camaraderie.

Walking Requirements:

This is our most walking-intensive excursion of the voyage. Guests should expect approximately 1.5 to 2 miles of total walking spread throughout the day. The pace will be relaxed with frequent stops, opportunities to rest, and plenty of time to enjoy the scenery. There are no significant hills, steep climbs, or strenuous terrain, but participants should be comfortable walking for extended periods on sidewalks, boardwalks, and maintained park trails.

Comfortable walking shoes are strongly recommended.

Sometimes the best way to experience Alaska isn’t from a bus or a boat. It’s by slowing down, walking beneath the trees, and discovering the stories hidden along the trail.
